The Ugly: Snatch Thief Teens?

March 6th 2008 04:50

The general election is coming so close I know many of us can smell it. But what’s not so right is that you actually see party supporters running around with their flags on, promoting, encouraging change of government.

While all these are happening, with people busy hanging up party flags and candidate posters, our dear colleague whose 56 years old was attacked by snatch thieves on motorcycle. We didn’t have such bad incident for a few months now but the attackers (according to her husband – also our colleague) knew what they were doing. And in split seconds before both husband and wife realised, they came, grabbed and pulled the bag in high speed, and the next thing you know is my colleague was on the road, head, hips and knees in scratches and blood all over; and the snatchers rode off with them swinging the bag up in triumphant roars.

(Based on experiences heard from friends who were victims, more experienced snatch thieves do not roar after “a catch”, they usually try to ride of as fast as they can – that’s why my colleague’s husband realised they could be teens)

Thank goodness her husband was there to drag her up on time right before the car came and smashed her glasses into pieces.

What a way to get yourself ready for election. As far as the government has said that security is there, yet these things are happening everywhere in the central city of Kuala Lumpur, especially at the residential-office areas. Although I can’t deny that this happens around the world, even for countries like US, but if the government and the law enforcements do not take are sterner action on such incidents it would really be unsafe for women to walk on the streets.

With the exposure of violent movies, it is even harder to maintain a society in the peaceful way as we used to.

So, there goes the designer handbag on the shoulders of the ladies around my work place, for now.

Hey, maybe you should leave politics out of your comments. Because you sound like a government crony with your views.

We, all of us, have a right to express our political, social and cultural views, as long as no-one get hurt. We exist in a modern world not the dark ages.
