Malaysia Found - Malaysia2007

For the sake of conviniences

March 3rd 2008 06:21
Ok, yesterday the thunderstorms showered with fancy lightning displays did not stop any party candidates to voice out what they want to say to the public during their campaign. You could actually see cars parked everywhere just to get a seat at the campaign talks around the Klang Valley.

However, the government has done something extra to gain the public's heart by allowing lost MyKad (Identification cards) to be processed within the day in conjunction of the coming election this coming Saturday, 8 March 2008

Lost MyKad can be replaced within an hour

KUALA LUMPUR: Those who lost their MyKad can obtain on-the-spot replacements at the Putrajaya National Registration Department and the department's branch in Malacca so that they can vote on March 8.

Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Raja Azhar Abdul Manaf said the department's headquarters in Putrajaya would have dedicated staff to replace missing MyKad within an hour during off-peak hours.

However, he said, if one were to lose his or her MyKad on Friday (March 7), he or she could only get replacements on the same day at the department's branch in Malacca.

“The replacement slips, which are issued by the department's branches, are just temporary.

“Those who lost their MyKad should go to the department's headquarters in Putrajaya and Malacca branch to get their replacements, which will be ready immediately.

“There should be no reason for them to use the temporary slips as a valid document on polling day as the department assures them that they can obtain their MyKad replacements before that,” he told reporters after opening a symposium on Sexuality and Fertility for People with Spinal Cord Injuries organised by Perwira K9, an association for those with spinal cord injuries, here on Saturday.

Perwira K9 chairman Ras Adiba Radzi said at least 60% to 70% of the 500,000 association members would come out to vote.

“We have requested the Election Commission to mobilise workers and volunteers to provide facilities and assistance for our members to come out to vote for candidates and political parties which we think should rule the country,” the association's founder Chong Tuck Meng added.

Sample of MyKad

So what does that mean? Actually that MyKads can actually be processed within the day and yet it takes at least 14 - 30 days for normal process?

Well, there ARE a lot of citizens actually lost their myKads, not to mention daily influx of registration for MyKID (children identity card 12 and below) and new MyKads process; yet not everyone votes on this 12th election. Nevertheless this move to promote the nation to vote is effective enough to see that things are trying to progress in the country, although sometimes it is only effective within special occasions such as this.
