Kuala Lumpur, Dec 9 -- Malaysians are urged to be more explorative during their holidays by getting involve in unique activities like homestay as well as visit historical places around the country, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said today during the launch of VMY 2007 Domestic Holiday Packages programme in Kuala Lumpur.
“Tour programmes available offer several unique packages from tasting healthy organic food to activities like squid jiggling at the coast of Terengganu,” he said.
Based on a research conducted by Tourism Malaysia, more than 60 per cent of domestic tourists travel during school and public holidays. He hoped more Malaysians especially the senior citizens and those whom have yet to have children to grab this opportunity and travel outside the peak period.
Tengku Adnan said the programme is timely in view of the Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2007 campaign. With such programme, more locals will get the chance to participate in the 200 events planned out throughout the VMY 2007.
Tourism Malaysia with the cooperation of Malaysian Association of Travel and Tour Agents (MATTA), Malaysian Airlines (MAS), AirAsia, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), Bumitra and Malayan Banking Berhad (Maybank), came up with the holiday packages to increase the publicity on VMY 2007 campaign and encourage a planned holiday culture among Malaysians.
