Rebates only for citizens

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian permanent residents are not entitled to the cash rebates announced for car owners.

Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said this in response to a query from a reader who asked whether her Indian national husband, who had applied for permanent resident status seven years ago, was entitled to the rebate.

“Only vehicle owners who are Malaysian citizens are entitled to the rebate,” he said.

On June 4, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had announced the new fuel price of RM2.70 a litre for petrol and RM2.58 a litre for diesel.

In line with that, owners of private vehicles with engine capacity of 2,000cc and below will enjoy a RM625 rebate.

Owners of private pickup trucks and jeeps with engine capacity of 2,500cc and below will also receive the rebate.

Owners of motorcycles of 250cc and below are eligible for a RM150 rebate.

Pos Malaysia Bhd, in a statement yesterday, said three post offices – Bukit Bendera (Penang), Changkat Kruing (near Setiawan) and Carey Island (off Banting) – will not be accepting applications for fuel subsidy cash rebates.

The rebates can be claimed at its other 683 post offices nationwide.

The list of post offices is available at its website www.pos.com.my.

Customers can also contact its customer service centre PosLine at 1-300-300-300 (except on the first Saturday of the month) should they have any enquiries.

Pos Malaysia also clarified that the three minutes for processing the cash rebate did not include the queuing time.

Hi katyzzz,

We have just started to track on the traffic statistic to the city and found out about 12 thousand less cars entering daily and the train stations are packed with cars parked, where citizens are taking trains to the city center.

Unfortunately, where I am working at the moment doesn't have good public transport and the buses will need to beef up their services to help the public and themselves to combat the price increase trouble at all areas.

Good to see you around here again! ^_^

Have a blessed day
