KUCHING: The Sarawak Tourism Board has published a ``Music Without Borders'' book to commemorate the Rainforest World Music Festival's 10th anniversary.

The 206-page coffeetable book provides a chronology of the festival's development and contains more than 500 photographs taken during the past concerts.

Board's chief executive officer Gracie Geikie said the book also featured the various musical instruments used in Borneo.

``A limited edition of 5,000 copies of the book are being printed.

``It is a collector's item, and there will not be a reprint,'' she told reporters when unveiling the book at the board's office here on Thursday.

The book, priced at RM125 (soft copy), is authored by Heidi Munan and published by Marshall Cavendish (M) Sdn Bhd.

Pre-order for the book could be made at Rainforest World Music Festival main site.

Five hundred copies are available for sale on Amazon.com.

Gracie said Tourism Malaysia and several corporate bodies including, Shell, had ordered 2,500 copies (hard cover) of the book.

On the 10th anniversary festival beginning July 13 at the Sarawak Cultural Village near here, she said it would receive the biggest ever media coverage by some 220 foreign journalists from electronic and print media in 15 countries.

Gracie said more than 10,000 tickets to the three nightly open-air concerts on the foothill of Mount Santubong had been sold.

The festival, which won the 2006 PATA Gold Award, attracted some 17,000 music lovers, 60% of them were non-Sarawakians, last year.

``The maximium capacity for this year's festival is 24,000. The safety and comfort of the audience is our prime consideration,'' she said.

Gracie said the festival, which would feature 20 international and local musical groups, was expected to generate a revenue of RM15mil for the tourism industry, up from RM13mil last year.
