Kuala Lumpur, Minister of Tourism, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, today announced that the Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2007 campaign will be officially launched by the Prime Minister on Saturday January 6th 2007 evening at a colourful gala in Taman Tasik Titiwangsa. The highlights of the event will include a concert featuring renowned Malaysian artistes, an exciting fireworks display and the unveiling of the 60 metres high Ferris Wheel similar to the “London Eye”; dubbed the “Eye on Malaysia” – a first such structure in South East Asia.
According to the Minister, “This VMY’07 campaign is the third in the series and I am confident it will surpass the successes of the previous campaigns held in 1990 and 1994. This is due to the meticulous planning and innovative tourism products lined up for the 20.1 million visitors expected to descend upon our shores. We see this also as a timely initiative as it will help to enhance and internationalise Malaysia’s brand image as a global tourist destination of choice. Its significance is further augmented by the nation’s Golden Jubilee celebrations as we rejoice in our 50 years of nationhood
